My culinary journey began in '82, when I relocated to South Jersey to attend Stockton State College. I needed a part-time job to help with tuition so I started working at a local restaurant as a dishwasher and prep cook; this is where my love of creating a great meal began!
I am Joseph DeGennaro or Chef Joe if you like! I attended the Academy of Culinary Arts, and in 1987 I decided to relocate to the U.S. Virgin Islands working for two major hotel brands where I created menu items using many different types of cuisines.
I met and married my beautiful wife while living there and in 1998, after 10 years of working in the Caribbean, we decided to return to South Jersey where I became the Executive Chef at the historic Renault Winery.
To have a local restaurant and be involved in my community was always my dream! Gennaro's Italian Grille & Pizzeria, formerly, Mario's, is the perfect place for me to introduce a contemporary dining experience along with every day staple items that have sustained the former business for more than a decade. Amazing pizza and even better service. The guy behind counter making pizzas is a professional is an under statement. And the counter girls are the sweetest and much fun to talk to while wait for food.
Great family run small pizzeria (and other food, too). Definitely recommend stopping in for a nice casual meal or ordering take out - can't go wrong either way.
We're new to the area and we now order from Gennaros quite often..Joe and staff are very nice and the food is delicious..the atmosphere inside is very cozy and comfortable..give it a try!
